Midjourney is an exciting new tool that is taking the art and design world by storm. As an information designer with a background in pharmacy, I was intrigued by the idea of generating images from natural language descriptions. So, I decided to give Midjourney a try to see what all the fuss was about.

To get started, I entered a few prompts related to a healthcare messenger app I was working on. I included phrases like “simple design,” “healthcare,” and “easy to use.” Midjourney quickly generated a series of images based on my prompts in a few seconds. I was impressed by how quickly the images were generated and how visually appealing they were.

Comparing UI design & illustrations by Midjourney

One thing I noticed right away was that Midjourney seemed to work better for illustrations than for UI design. While the UI designs were visually impressive at the first glance, the text was just a random pattern, and the generated images needed to be completely rebuilt in a tool like Figma to be usable for the project. However, the illustrations that Midjourney generated were top-notch and could be used in a variety of ways including Web and App projects.

As I continued to experiment with Midjourney, I discovered that adding specific prompts could help produce better designs. For example, when I added “Figma” and “Dribbble” to my prompts, the program generated designs that were better suited for the designer. Adding prompts like “flat colors” and “clean design” also helped generate the desired outcome.

Using Midjourney was a fun and exciting experience. I loved seeing the program generate images based on my prompts and experimenting with different phrases to see what kind of results I would get. While it may not be perfect for all design projects, Midjourney is a valuable tool for generating illustrations quickly and easily and getting inspired.

If you’re a designer looking to try something new, I highly recommend giving Midjourney a try. You may be surprised by the results you get and the speed at which you can generate high-quality images. I’m really excited to see the work, especially from designers with Midjourney, and how it will be used for different design projects!
